Environment

As San Jacinto's population grows, our existing water challenges will only intensify. We need robust sustainability policies to manage water resources effectively.

While San Jacinto, located inland, isn't directly impacted by rising sea levels, our community still faces significant water challenges.

One major threat is groundwater contamination. Pollutants from sewage and industrial waste can seep into our underground aquifers, the source of our drinking water. These contaminants can be difficult to detect and may not cause any noticeable taste or odor, posing a serious health risk.

I am committed to addressing this issue and will push for policies that hold polluters accountable for protecting our precious water resources.

  • strengthen fines for polluters

  • mandate industrial clean-up of plumes

  • enforce stricter regulations to curb further contamination

  • regulate excessive groundwater pumping

Public Safety

San Jacinto thrives on a strong sense of community, and I'm committed to keeping it safe and healthy. This means supporting our Sheriff's Department with the resources they need, from proper funding and training to fostering positive relationships with residents. Additionally, integrating mental health services with emergency response will ensure effective crisis management and reduce the burden on law enforcement.

Combatting Hate

San Jacinto is a diverse community, and I believe everyone deserves to feel safe and respected. Combatting hate crimes and promoting inclusivity will be a top priority. This means working closely with local law enforcement to ensure hate crimes are investigated and prosecuted effectively. We also need to foster a culture of acceptance through community outreach programs and educational initiatives that celebrate our diversity. By working together, we can create a San Jacinto where everyone feels welcome and can thrive.

Affordability Challenge

The rising cost of living in San Jacinto is putting a strain on families and individuals. From housing and groceries to childcare and transportation, expenses are squeezing budgets across the board. This challenge threatens to push out middle-class families, young professionals, and seniors on fixed incomes.

As your city council member, I'm committed to addressing this issue head-on. We need to explore strategies to make San Jacinto more affordable, like supporting local businesses, promoting workforce development, and advocating for policies that control rising costs. Additionally, I'll work to ensure San Jacinto receives a fair share of resources from the state to invest in our community and ease the burden on residents.

Public Schools

San Jacinto families choose our community for many reasons, and our public schools are a major draw. While we may not boast national rankings, San Jacinto Unified School District offers a strong educational foundation for our students.

As a strong advocate for public education, I believe in providing the resources and support necessary for all students to succeed.

  • Proper Funding: Advocating for increased state and local funding to ensure our schools have the resources they need.
  • Competitive Teacher Salaries: Supporting competitive salaries and benefits to attract and retain high-quality teachers.
  • Favorable Class Sizes: Promoting manageable class sizes for effective student-teacher interaction.

My commitment goes beyond funding. I believe in fostering a collaborative environment between educators, parents, and community members to ensure San Jacinto's schools continue to provide a high-quality education for all students.

Constituent Services

Providing constituent services is one of the most important roles an elected official has. And to me, it is the highest honor the position bestows. The residents of our city deserve a councilmember who is accessible, responsive, and genuinely invested in the community's welfare.
  • Accessible and Personal Communication: Elected officials often appear distant, if not entirely removed from the work of constituent services that is routinely left to staff.  My approach emphasizes easy accessibility and personalized communication with residents.
  • Prioritizing Residents: Public service means putting residents first—listening attentively, understanding their challenges and concerns, and responding promptly and effectively.

Protecting Our Water

In San Jacinto, the sight of brown tap water is not just a visual concern but a stark indicator of a pressing issue. There is an urgent need to safeguard our water supply for future generations. As our population grows, the effective management of this finite resource becomes increasingly crucial. While San Jacinto may not be at risk from rising sea levels, the poisoning of our groundwater is a problem lurking beneath our feet. Pollutants such as sewage and industrial waste can seep into the subterranean aquifers that supply our drinking water. These pollutants, often subtle and undetectable by taste or odor, pose a significant risk to human health.

I'm committed to protecting this essential resource and I have a detailed plan:

Plug the Leaks Raise fines on polluters who spill toxic chemicals, making them liable for cleaning them up.

Clean Up the Mess Require polluters to remediate existing contaminant plumes moving unseen beneath neighboring properties proactively.

Keep It Clear Impose restrictions on development to prevent the possibility of further discharges and greenwashing.

Manage Our Reserves Enact groundwater pump age regulations that ensure a safe yield for future generations. We can’t dry up our reserves and expect to remain on high ground.

With these precautions in place, we can ensure a continuous flow of safe drinking water through San Jacinto for a long time to come, securing the survival and vitality of our community.
